Accepting the Challenge of Excellence
The Ace Award
recognizes students who have overcome a significant challenge to earn a high
school diploma. The Exchange Club of
Aurora is proud to honor six students this year; Oscar Aguilera,
Erika Alcala, Ashley Keith, Rodrigo Madrigal, JaCoure Miller and Jasmine Muñoz. All six students were awarded a $1,000
scholarship. Dr. Clem Mejia, former
Regional Superintendent of Kane County Schools presented the keynote
address.
Many Young Voices Award
Many Young Voices
is a program designed to allow students, without assessment or judgment, a
place to explore their ideas about the world around them Within the safety
of the parameters of dialogue instead of debate, students have an opportunity
to find and discover their voice. For
many students, this experience serves as both a window into understanding
others by listening, empathizing and humanizing, as well as a mirror to see him
or herself with more clarity and compassion. This year Lynette M. Montañez
was awarded a $1,000 Many Young Voices award scholarship.

Did you know that, the
average cost of a year's tuition, room and board, and fees at a public
university last year was $8,470 (source: the College Board). Many experts
predict that the cost of public university will also increase at a rate of
about 5% per year over the next decade.
